Gunther confronts Cody Rhodes over SmackDown contract signing

Gunther accused Cody Rhodes of turning the contract signing for a title match at Clash in Italy into a personal spectacle during Friday Night SmackDown. The Austrian wrestler claimed Rhodes had interrupted his planned arrival on the blue brand and demanded that Rhodes address him professionally and say please before signing.

Rhodes responded that Gunther had used Paul Heyman to secure the match and insisted the contract be signed in the ring. He told Gunther the bout would guarantee him a loss at Clash in Italy if he chose to proceed.

Royce Keys interrupted the segment and offered to sign the contract in Gunther’s place. General manager Nick Aldis ruled that Gunther had forfeited the guaranteed shot and instead booked a match between Gunther and Keys for later that night.

Gunther defeated Keys in the main event after a distraction allowed him to land a powerbomb for the pin. Rhodes then attacked Gunther from behind as he celebrated the victory.
