Fox News Digital reported that the Minnesota Vikings signed quarterback Carson Wentz to a one-year contract on Thursday, following the signing of Kyler Murray to a one-year deal the previous week. The report stated that Wentz served as a backup to J.J. McCarthy during the 2025 season with the team.

Wentz, a 32-year-old quarterback from North Dakota State University, was the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles.[1][2] He has played for multiple teams, including the Indianapolis Colts, Washington Commanders, and Los Angeles Rams, where he appeared in two games during the 2023 season.[1][2]

Kyler Murray, 27, is a Heisman Trophy winner from the University of Oklahoma and the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals.[3][4] Murray has started 89 games for the Cardinals through the 2024 season, with career totals of 20,243 passing yards, 118 touchdowns, and 52 interceptions.[4]

J.J. McCarthy, 22, was selected 10th overall by the Vikings in the 2024 NFL Draft out of the University of Michigan, where he led the team to a national championship.[5][6] McCarthy missed his entire 2024 rookie season after undergoing surgery for a torn meniscus sustained in the preseason.[5][6]

The Vikings currently compete in the NFC North division of the NFL. As of October 2024, the team holds a 5-1 record in the 2024 season, with veteran Sam Darnold serving as the starting quarterback while McCarthy recovers.[7][8]
