Gibbs Becomes First Repeat Pick on Gronk & Jules Awards

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs produced 164 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns in a 31-24 win over the New York Jets, earning Rob Gronkowski's "Employee of the Week" nod for the second time in three weeks on the "Gronk & Jules" segment. Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota, who threw for three touchdowns and no turnovers in a 33-31 upset of the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, was Julian Edelman's selection for Week 3.

Gibbs carried 20 times for 99 yards and two rushing touchdowns, and added seven catches for 65 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown reception that gave Detroit the lead for good in the fourth quarter. "The way he flashes across the field. 164 yards total, three touchdowns. This guy is just a specimen. He can take anything to the house at any time," Gronkowski said. Gibbs is the first player named Employee of the Week twice since the segment began in Week 1, when he scored twice against the New Orleans Saints and became the sixth player in NFL history to reach 50 career touchdowns within his first 50 games. sailing betting online

The Week 3 outing pushed Gibbs to six touchdowns through three games and moved him past Billy Sims into second place on the Lions' all-time rushing touchdown list with 43, trailing only Barry Sanders' 99. Gronkowski said he had picked Gibbs to win Offensive Player of the Year in his preseason predictions and called him his favorite running back in the league. Mariota, making his first start of the season in place of the injured Jayden Daniels, threw touchdown passes to Rachaad White, Treylon Burks and Terry McLaurin in rainy conditions - his first three-touchdown game since 2022. "That's a big-time win, beating the defending Super Bowl champs in a s---ty-weather game," Edelman said. "You had three touchdowns, no turnovers. I love that. I'm giving the game ball to Marcus Mariota."

Mariota and the Commanders travel to London to face the Indianapolis Colts in Week 4, while Gibbs and the Lions head to Carolina to play the Panthers.
