Eugenio Suárez hit an RBI double in the ninth inning to give Venezuela a 3-2 win over the United States in the World Baseball Classic final at loanDepot park in Miami, Florida, on March 17, 2026, according to a Fox News Digital report.[1]

Suárez, a 33-year-old third baseman from Venezuela currently playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks in Major League Baseball, credited his faith in a post-game interview with Fox Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal.[1][2] "I mean, what can I say about this? It’s amazing. God is good, all the glory is for the Lord Jesus. He was with us the whole time," Suárez said.[1]

He added: "We have to glorify, put his name in front of everything. Nobody believed in Venezuela, but now we [won] the championship today. This is a celebration for all [of Venezuela]."[1]

Key moments from the game included a solo home run by Venezuela's Wilyer Abreu to extend the lead, followed by a ninth-inning homer by U.S. designated hitter Bryce Harper off pitcher Andrés Machado to tie the score at 2-2. Javier Sanoja stole second base before Suárez's game-winning hit off Garrett Whitlock.[1]

  • Solo HR: Wilyer Abreu (Venezuela)
  • Tie game HR: Bryce Harper (U.S., bottom 8th or 9th)
  • Game-winner: Eugenio Suárez RBI double (top 9th)

The report described Venezuela holding the U.S. to two hits through much of the game, with Bryce Harper reaching base late.[1] The night before, on March 16, Suárez hit a solo home run in Venezuela's win over Italy.[1]

The 2026 World Baseball Classic final took place at loanDepot park, home of the Miami Marlins and site of the 2023 WBC final.[1][3][4] Venezuela claimed its first WBC title, surpassing previous best finishes including a 2017 semifinal appearance.[1][5]

Players from both teams are expected to return to their MLB clubs following the tournament, with the 2026 MLB regular season scheduled to begin in late March.[2][4]
